Boys tennis roundup: Alexandria sweeps past Willmar, 7-0
Apr. 16—WILLMAR — The Willmar boys tennis team was swept by Alexandra on Thursday, 7-0.
Willmar lost in straight sets. The closest match was No. 2 singles.
Alex's Cedric Soderholm beat Deven Hegreberg 6-2, 6-1.
Alexandria is now 3-0 in the Central Lakes Conference and 6-1 overall. Willmar fell to 0-3 in the CLC and 0-5 overall.
Willmar plays at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Osakis.
New London-Spicer did not lose a set in a sweep over Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at LQPV High School in Madison.
The Wildcats' Jowell Gamez won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles over Hudson Giese. Jameson Dragt, Coleman Davis and Liam Hanson also won at singles.
NLS' Isaac Palmer and Jovial Martinez claimed a win at No. 1 doubles. Oden Hanson and Crew Werder got a victory in No. 2 doubles.
NLS competes with Montevideo and Pine City at the Litchfield quadrangular at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Litchfield. LQPV/DB plays Pipestone at 4 p.m. Friday in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Minnewaska beat Yellow Medicine East in straight sets at Glenwood.
The closest match was at No.4 singles. Minnewaska junior Ethan Klick knocked off YME sophomore Adrian Leske 6-3, 6-4.
Minnewaska hosts Alexandria and Thief River Falls for a triangular at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Glenwood. YME plays at Luverne at 1 p.m. and at Pipestone at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Litchfield swept doubles play to come away with a home victory over Mora.
The Dragons' Matt Defries and Grayson Swenson won their No. 1 doubles match over Will Sand and Connor Sjodin, 6-0, 6-3. Isaac Elwell and Andy Wittrock beat Titus Hamilton and Tanner Anderson 6-0, 6-1 to claim No. 2 doubles. Everett Carlson and Zeke Bruning were victors in No. 3 doubles against Ryland Connolly and Silas Rue, 6-1, 6-1.
Matthias Bruning claimed a win for Litchfield at No. 4 singles over Graham Balmer, 6-1, 6-1.
Litchfield hosts Montevideo, New London-Spicer and Pine City for a quadrangular at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
