Boys tennis roundup: Minnewaska dominates at WCC meet

May 2—GLENWOOD — The Minnewaska boys tennis team took first place in five of the seven brackets in the West Central Conference championship tournament on Friday.

The Lakers' Tenzin Dahl, Drew Bleick and Carter LeClaire won Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles. Dahl beat New London-Spicer's Jowell Gamez in the No. 1 singles final, 6-4, 6-3. Bleick swept Yellow Medicine East's Karter Canatsey in the No. 2 singles final, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 3 finals saw LeClair beat NLS' Jameson Dragt, 6-0, 6-1

Minnewaska also won Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. The No. 2 pairing of Xavier Johnson and Carson Beyer beat NLS' Vaughn Hanson and Isaac Palmer in the finals, 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. At No. 3, the Lakers' Tyler Kohn and Easton Palmer defeated NLS' Ehtan Wenke and Liam Hanson, 7-6 (2), 7-5.

Benson won the other two brackets. At No. 1 doubles, the Braves' Isaac Carlson and Harold Habben defeated Minnewaska's Riley Thorfinnson and Marshall Kopp, 6-2, 7-5. In No. 4 singles, Benson's Bence Banoczky knocked off Minnewaska's Aidric Vold, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.

With two wins in doubles play, Redwood Valley edged Litchfield for a dual meet victory at Redwood Falls.

The Dragons' Tommy Wittrock and Max Grabow got wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Wittrock defeated Carlos Martin, 6-2, 6-3. Grabow followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Yzkiel Rendon. Litchfield won at No. 1 doubles. Josh Blomberg and Matthias Bruning beat the Cardinals' Kanyon Hicks and Elway Berg, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Litchfield goes on the road for a pair of matches on Monday. The Dragons play Blue Earth at 2 p.m. and Fairmont at 5 p.m.
