The 2025 U.S. Open is just days away. While the action doesn’t officially tee off until Thursday morning, players have begun arriving at Oakmont for the third major of the golf season.
All eyes are on defending champion Bryson DeChambeau, who captured last year’s title at Pinehurst with a 6-under finish, edging Rory McIlroy by one stroke. It marked the second straight year McIlroy finished as runner-up at the event.
On Monday morning, the U.S. Open’s social media team posted a video of DeChambeau arriving at Oakmont in Pennsylvania. In the clip, he’s seen returning the U.S. Open trophy with a smile and a short but meaningful message.
“One last time,” DeChambeau said, giving the trophy a smile and a small kiss before handing it off:

Unlike the Masters, where winners receive the iconic green jacket, or the The Open Championship and PGA Championship, which award the claret jug and Wanamaker Trophy, respectively, the U.S. Open doesn’t attach a specific nickname to its prize.
DeChambeau will be chasing his third U.S. Open title, having also won in 2020 at Winged Foot. A win this week would make him the first back-to-back champion since Brooks Koepka did it in 2017 and 2018.
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is still searching for his first U.S. Open crown. The 28-year-old needs a victory here and at The Open Championship to complete the career Grand Slam. He came close in 2022, tying for second with Will Zalatoris behind Matt Fitzpatrick.
The last time Oakmont hosted the U.S. Open was 2016. That year, Dustin Johnson claimed the title by three strokes over Jim Furyk, Shane Lowry and Scott Piercy. The winner’s share was $ 1.8 million at the time. This year, the champion will walk away with a $ 4.3 million payday.
All the storylines are in place. The pressure is mounting. The 2025 U.S. Open is ready to deliver another unforgettable week of golf.
