Cameron Norrie suffered a disappointing 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 defeat to Valentin Vacherot at the Paris Masters on Thursday (October 30).

The British No. 2 came into his Round of 16 contest fresh off beating World No. 1 and six-time major winner Carlos Alcaraz 24 hours prior.

The 30-year-old's display against the top seed was very impressive as he had to come from a set down to advance in the French capital.

He described the performance as the "biggest win" of his career due to it being his first ever triumph over a current World No. 1 player.

The World No. 31's exit to Vacherot came as a result of him failing to convert any of the five break points he had throughout the contest.

Vacherot, who recently shocked the tennis world by winning the Shanghai Masters, made sure to convert his only break point of the match in the fifth game of the second set.

Two of Norrie's opportunities to land a break came after this moment in the eighth game, but his Monegasque opponent remained firm and held serve, before eventually serving out to advance to the last eight of the ATP 1000 event.

Defeat for Norrie means he is yet to reach the quarter-final stage of a singles event since competing at the recent edition of Wimbledon.

For Vacherot, this latest victory is his 10th in succession at Masters events and builds on his heroics in Shanghai earlier this month.

The 26-year-old defeated the likes of Novak Djokovic, Holger Rune and Alexander Bublik along the way to winning his first ever ATP Tour title in the Chinese city.

The Monegasque's ranking of 204 at the time of winning the recent Masters tournament saw him make history as the lowest-ranked player to win that level of event since 1990.

Another part of what made his run in Shanghai very special and one of the best stories of this tennis season was him defeating his own cousin Arthur Rinderknech in the final.

Following a 10th victory over a top-50 ranked player this calendar year, Vacherot is up to 30th place in the live ATP world rankings.

He will now take on Canadian ninth seed Felix Auger-Alisassime in the quarter-finals in Paris on Friday (October 31).
