Dillon Danis sends message to UFC after quick submission win: ‘Stop hiding your guys’
Dillon Danis wants into the UFC.
On Saturday, Danis picked up third professional MMA win, submitting Warren Spencer at Misfits Boxing 22 to claim the inaugural Misfits MMA title. To call the bout “one-sided” would be an overstatement, as Danis hit Spencer, who was making his MMA debut, with one punch before grabbing a guillotine choke and submitting him just 15 seconds into the bout.
“I was ready to go,” Danis told MMA Fighting after the bout. “I was ready to bang, to be honest. Once I hit him with that first shot, you could see he was going down, and he knew he was going down. I think he might have just — he tried to clinch and once you grab a hold of me, I’m taking your neck, your arm, it doesn’t matter what it is.”
The fight was viewed by many as a setup fight and ultimately played out that way. But for Danis it was an important step because his end goal is to make it into the UFC.
“It could be anybody. I’ve been saying this,” Danis said. “It doesn’t matter who was out there tonight, it would have been the same thing. It could have been six seconds, it could have been 10 seconds. I’m on a different level and I’ve known that from the beginning. That’s the reason these guys don’t want to fight me. … They’re just scared to fight me.
“I want to get to the UFC, so they’re forced to fight me. Because I can beat every single one of these guys. Kevin Holland, all the guys in the Top 15, they’re all trash. I’m going to beat everybody’s ass.”
A world-class grappler, Danis has spent the past few years stirring up trouble in the influencer boxing space, while only fighting once. He briefly was tied to the UFC but Danis had no interest in fighting on Contender Series to make his way into the promotion. Instead, he’s trying to catch the attention of the UFC matchmakers, and he believes this performance, and his entire fight week, may have done so.
“They’re definitely watching,” Danis said. “Stop hiding your guys from me, because you know I’m going to beat them. I think the fans after this will be like, ‘I want to see him.’ I sold the fight. The UFC is so boring now. No one even cares. It’s dying down. I can bring the whole entertainment, the whole package. I have the standup. I showed it tonight. I dropped the boxer, he ended up shooting on me, or driving in for the clinch. I took his neck, six seconds. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter who they give me, I’ll go in and fight any single guy they want. Any single guy off the bat. I don’t care if it’s Jack Della Maddalena. Doesn’t matter who it is. Leon Edwards would be an easy one, any of those guys. Michael ‘Venom’ Page, I don’t care.”
And if that doesn’t happen soon, Danis already has plans for his next Misfits fight. Also at Misfits Boxing 22, Tony Ferguson got a win, stopping Salt Papi in their boxing match, which Danis hopes sets up a long-awaited battle between the two.
“That’s the fight I want to defend first, against Tony. I was happy for him to get the win. We talked and we said we’re going to get the money. GFL was offering some crazy money. I said, no, we’ll do Misfits. I think he still thinks GFL is going to happen.”
