ESPN report: NFL Chief Media and Business officer Brian Rolapp in line to be the PGA Tour's CEO
The PGA Tour may be reaching out to the NFL to hire its CEO, according to an ESPN report.
Brian Rolapp, the league’s Chief Media and Business officer, is in line to fill the position, sources told ESPN NFL reporters Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham.
Rolapp has been with the NFL for 22 years and has been in his current position since 2017. He also has served as the NFL’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice-President of Media Strategy and Digital Media, and the CEO of NFL Network.
According to the ESPN report, Rolapp oversees advertising sales, sponsorships and TV contracts, which are worth more than $ 10 billion per year. The report also said that Rolapp had been considered a possible successor for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The PGA Tour declined comment to the Times-Union.
CEO will work with Commissioner Jay Monahan
The person in the Tour’s CEO position will oversee the Tour’s for-profit PGA Tour Enterprises and work with Commissioner Jay Monahan.
It is unclear whether filling the CEO position will be a prelude to finalizing a merger with the LIV Golf League. It’s been more than two years since Monahan and Saudi Public Investment Fund Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan announced a “framework” deal.
However, the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement, despite the willingness of President Donald Trump to help broker a deal. Monahan has met three times with the President, a round of golf in West Palm Beach, and two White House visits, first with Policy Board player-director Adam Scott and then with player-director Tiger Woods.
The Tour is aligned with the Strategic Sports Group, a consortium of billionaire sports team owners that will invest as much as $ 3 billion in PGA Tour Enterprises.
