Girls tennis roundup: State-ranked Litchfield Dragons knock off Westonka White Hawks

Sep. 8—LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield girls tennis team cruised to a victory over Westonka on Monday.

The Dragons, ranked fourth in Class A, knocked off the White Hawks 6-1 at Litchfield High School.

Junior Isla Dille led Litchfield's singles players. Dille, the fourth-ranked player in Class A, beat Suzie Marth at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. Molly Patten and Emma Wuotila also won at Nos. 2 and 3 singles for the Dragons.

The Dragons went 3-0 in doubles play. In the No. 1 match, Litchfield's Ella Woelfel and Marcella Bruning came back from a first-set loss to beat Westonka's Emily Hallett and Maddie Schley, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.

Litchfield plays at Osakis at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Montevideo won three matches without giving up a game to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in a victory at Montevideo.

Ashley Klaassen and Avery Albrecht each won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Thunder Hawks. At No. 3 doubles, Montevideo's Ava Spray and Gabrielle Augeson won 6-0, 6-0

Montevideo hosts Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. BBE hosts St. John's Prep at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Belgrade.

Emma Keller's three-set win at No. 2 singles propelled Yellow Medicine East to a win over host Marshall.

Keller beat the Tigers' Kathryn Coudron, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Brianna Nelson and Sarana West also won at Nos. 1 and 3 singles for the Sting. Carley Redepenning and Kyla Smith added a win at No. 2 doubles.

YME plays against Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood.

Morris/Chokio-Alberta won every point except at No. 1 doubles to earn the victory at Madison.

Molly Halvorson and Camryn Olesen defeated Morris/CA's Molly Wayne and Allison Nohl by medical forfeit.

LQPV/DB also had a close call at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles. At No. 4 singles, Morris/CA's Halle Grimm beat Greta Hacker 6-2, 5-7, 10-5. At No. 2 doubles, Lilia Asmus and Ruby Chotka knocked off LQVP/DB's Brianna Borstad and Aidyn Bonn 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).

LQPV/DB plays at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Montevideo.

Three singles victories propelled the second-ranked Lakers (Class A) past Osakis at Glenwood.

Rachel Rankin beat Katie Collins 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Olivia Danielson defeated Erika Baker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Izzy Wallin beat Bree Moen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.

The No. 3 doubles duo of Ari Quelle and Payton Sundheim also earned a point for the Lakers. They beat Mataya Moore and Lexy Marthaler, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Minnewaska hosts Yellow Medicine East at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood.
