Jamey-Lyn Horth says striking evolving after first UFC finish

LAS VEGAS – Jamey-Lyn Horth met the media Saturday after her win over Tereza Bleda at UFC on ESPN 74.

Horth (9-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) put away Bleda (7-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) with a first-round TKO a little more than two minutes into their fight to open up the card at the UFC Apex.

She was supposed to fight Bleda in June, but the 24-year-old Czech fighter pulled out. Horth fought Vanessa Demopoulos, instead, to a decision win, and then re-set her sights on Bleda.

"The strategy definitely stayed the same between the two camps. I think what changed was my mindset and the evolution of my striking and just being more comfortable pushing forward and not being afraid of her having the longer reach," Horth told MMA Junkie at her post-fight news conference. "The game plan just got solidified (with the delay) and just gave me an opportunity to grow and evolve a little more."

The 35-year-old Canadian started her pro career with five straight stoppage wins, including for the LFA flyweight title. But after she signed with the UFC, it had been all decisions until her upset of Bleda.

"I think my striking is just settling in a little bit more – just the nerves of the first few fights fighting under this promotion," Horth said. "What am I at – 11 fights now as a pro? So I think, too, it's just time under the belt and just getting comfortable and settling in. Now I'm finding my place and finding my groove."
