Jansa mother-daughter duo claims SDGA Two-Woman title in four-hole playoff
Jun. 16—ABERDEEN — The South Dakota Golf Association Two-Woman Championship came to a thrilling conclusion on Sunday, as defending champions Julie and Reese Jansa, of Sioux Falls, won their third title in a row, this time in a four-hole playoff.
Julie and Reese Jansa made a birdie on the fourth playoff hole to claim the title at Moccasin Creek Golf Course in Aberdeen. It marks their fifth in the past six years for the mother-daughter pairing. Olivia Braun (Aberdeen) and Allison Meyerink (Mitchell) birdied the final hole of regulation to force the playoff after the Jansas took the lead on Hole No. 16 with an eagle from 70 yards.
A large crowd watched as the two teams traded birdies and pars in the playoff until Julie Jansa finally ended it with an eight-foot putt that snuck into the side of the hole.
The Jansas had a one-shot lead over Braun and Meyerink entering Sunday's final round. The teams both shot 6-under-par in regulation over 36 holes, with Jansa/Jansa shooting 70-68 in the best ball and Chapman format, while Braun/Meyerink — a pairing of the last two Class AA state girls golf high school champions — shot 71-67.
The Mid-Amateur, Seniors and Masters team formats were also played. In the Mid-Am, Jill Mollner and Karla Cotton, of Sioux Falls, won the event by eight shots, shooting 72-71. The Senior title went to Cindy Olson, of Sioux Falls, and Marna Raburn, of Rapid City, who shot 78-78 to win by three shots.
The Masters division, played for the first time at the SDGA level for those age 65 and older, was won by Vonda Bjorklund. of Volga, and Kathy Funk, of Custer, who won by a shot after shooting 74-83.
