Joe Rogan warns Jake Paul on boxing career: 'There's a price to pay'

Joe Rogan doesn’t think Jake Paul should pursue boxing for too much longer.

Paul broke his jaw in two places in his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua this past Friday at Kaseya Center in Miami. The loss marked the second of Paul’s career after he dropped a split decision to Tommy Fury in February 2023.

The UFC commentator says if Paul continues to take fights like Joshua, he may suffer longterm damage – but Paul isn’t exactly taking that advice after calling out Francis Ngannou.

“He’s 28 years old, 29 next month,” Rogan said of Paul in a recent episode of his “Joe Rogan Experience.” “Don’t do this very long because there’s a price that you pay that is not worth it. That price is deep depression, a severe brain imbalance that’s going to lead you to addiction. It leads so many people to impulsive behavior, so many people become gambling addicts, drug addicts, alcoholics after their fighting career.

“You could only take so much. That one that he got from Joshua, ooh. Say if you have a punch card, you have so many punches you can get in your life – which I believe you do. I believe there’s a certain number. That one was like 10 punches. There were a lot of concussions in that one punch. That was real damage. If someone’s breaking your jaw in two places, the inside of your head, there’s a lot of damage going on in there, too.”

Paul pointed to his cardio as a major flaw in his loss to Joshua, and Rogan agrees.

“He gets tired in a lot of his fights in the later rounds. He should really sort that out,” Rogan said. “If he had a much bigger gas tank – like if he was training with some of these elite, world-class strength and conditioning coaches and just worked on his cardio, he would be beating way more guys. What he’s doing is learning how to box, and he’s boxing and he’s training hard, for sure.

“But to get that world-class gas tank, you need like a Sam Calavitta. You need like a Nick Curson. You need like these plyometric experts that got heart rate monitors on you, and they’re checking when your recovery is ready. … Look, if that guy is only fighting three rounds, he’s a f*cking handful. He’s really good. He clocked Anthony Joshua. He did hit him with a big right hand.”
