Jordan Spieth Addresses Relationship With Scottie Scheffler Before PGA Tour

The golf world is buzzing as the PGA Championship heads to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, with the tournament set to tee off on May 15. The top golfers on the planet will battle it out for one of the sport’s most prestigious titles.

All eyes will be on Rory McIlroy, who is coming off a thrilling victory at The Masters last month in Augusta. McIlroy, a four-time major champion, is aiming to capture his first PGA Championship title since 2014 and further cement his legacy among the greats.

One golfer looking to break his major championship drought is Jordan Spieth. The 31-year-old Texan last won a major in 2017, when he captured The Open Championship. While Spieth managed a respectable T-14 finish at the Masters, he remains hungry for a marquee win.

Speaking about his motivation, Spieth referenced the recent success and his relationship with fellow University of Texas alum Scottie Scheffler:

“It makes me want to work harder and be better, especially after watching him for two days and just getting my butt kicked,” Spieth said.

Spieth showed flashes of brilliance this past weekend at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, where he finished fourth at 19-under-par, highlighted by a sizzling final-round 62. Despite the strong performance, it was Scottie Scheffler who stole the show.

Scheffler, now 28, is in the middle of a remarkable stretch. After winning The Masters in April, he also claimed Olympic gold over the summer, a feat no other player in this field can match. Add to that a FedEx Cup championship and a third consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award, and Scheffler’s 2025 season is one for the ages.

At the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, he was unstoppable. Scheffler won by eight strokes, finishing at 31-under-par, which tied the all-time 72-hole PGA Tour scoring record. His career resume now includes 14 PGA Tour wins, 3 European Tour victories and 2 Korn Ferry Tour wins.

With Quail Hollow hosting one of the year’s biggest events, all three stars—McIlroy, Spieth and Scheffler—will be in the spotlight. Will Spieth finally return to major-winning form? Or is this simply another chapter in Scheffler’s dominant run?

Golf fans won’t have to wait long to find out. The action begins May 15, and the field is set for what promises to be a thrilling PGA Championship.
