Lady Vols record seven victories in second day of UT Invite

No. 16 Tennessee recorded seven victories, five singles and two doubles, on Saturday during day No. 2 of the UT Invite at Goodfriend Tennis Center. The Lady Vols faced Vanderbilt in doubles competition and Arizona State in singles.

“I’m really excited about the way our girls competed,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. “As you get tired sometimes, the level of performance drops, but ours didn’t. The girls were fit, and emotionally, mentally and physically tough from start to finish.

“In doubles, there were lots of first serves, first balls and returns in which is something we wanted to work on from yesterday. Arizona State was a tough challenge on every court. I thought all 12 players performed at a pretty high level for us to stay solid the entire time was great.”

The Lady Vols will conclude play in the UT Invite on Jan. 10.

Tennessee will play Baylor in doubles competition at 11:30 a.m. EST. The Lady Vols will also face Vanderbilt in singles after doubles competition. The Tennessee-Vanderbilt matchup will not count towards SEC play.
