Merab Dvalishvili reveals toe injury two weeks ahead of UFC 316: 'I'm gonna cut it off'
Bantamweight champ Merab Dvalishvili has apparently suffered an injury that could affect the UFC 316 main event.
Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) is currently scheduled to face Sean O'Malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) in a title rematch on June 7, in two weeks' time. The pay-per-view event takes place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., and the 135-pound championship fight is the main event. However, the fight could now be in jeopardy.
Friday evening, Dvalishvili shared a video on Instagram Stories (originally posted by user @vato.gv), revealing a severely damaged pinky toe. Apparently, the injury occurred during a sparring session with undefeated bantamweight fighter Cameron Sandoval. At the beginning of the video, Dvalishvili showed the damage to his foot before making light of the situation.
"Why you break my toe, my friend?" Dvalishvili said at the beginning of the selfie video. Sandoval rebutted, "That was you! You kicked me in the head, broke your toe. That's your fault."

Dvalisvhili did not seem too concerned with the situation, although his demeanor is typically jovial no matter what.
"I'm gonna cut it off," Dvalishvili said with a laugh before the video ended.
While Dvalishvili's toe appeared severely damaged and he stated it was broken in the video, the full extent of the injury will not be known until the UFC champion has X-rays performed. If the bout between Dvaslivhili and O'Malley is ultimately canceled due to the injury, the current co-feature title fight between bantamweight champion Julianna Peña and Kayla Harrison could be elevated to the main event.
