Mitchell's Brooks and Kendall Aadland post runner-up finishes at Yankton Junior Tour stop
Jun. 12—YANKTON — Brooks and Kendall Aadland's runner-up finishes paced Mitchell-area golfers on Thursday.
Brooks Aadland, hailing from Mitchell, finished in second place in the boys under-9 division at the South Dakota Golf Association's Southeast Junior Tour stop at Fox Run Golf Course, firing a nine-hole score of 47, which included four pars. Kendall Aadland, also from Mitchell, shot a nine-hole round of 59 to finish in second in the girls 10-11 division.
Mitchell's Berkli Miles was third in the girls 10-11 division after a 68 behind Aadland and winner Madelynn Lahren of Brandon, who fired a 48 to claim the title. Brandon's Miles Lunning won the boys under-9 division after a 1-under 35.
Griffin Lyle of Mitchell was the top area finisher in the 18-hole divisions on Thursday, carding a round of 85 en route to a fourth-place finish in the boys 12-13 division, which included a birdie on the par-3 No. 17 hole. Mitchell's Jack Gillen secured a share of fifth after an 89 with one birdie.
Platte's Reece Burket finished 12th in the division after shooting a 99. Sioux Falls' Lincoln Trasamar and Yankton's Will Hesse tied at the top of the division standings following rounds of 6-over 78 against Fox Run's par-72 layout.
Tyndall's Michael Branaugh fired a round of 80 to finish in a tie for eighth place in the boys 14-15 division with a birdie on the par-5 No. 3 hole and eagle on the par-5 No. 10 hole. Platte's Rylan Burket was 28th after a 107. Brandon's Lincoln McInerney shot a 4-over 76 to defeat Brandon native Cooper Shuman by two strokes.
In the boys 16-18 division, Parkston's Landon Weber finished in a tie for 18th after shooting an 83. Parkston's Kelby Neugebauer secured a share of 24th following an 87. Zach Greble, of Sioux Falls, shot an even-par round of 72 to win the division championship.
Other winners include Yankton's Elia Homstad (79) in the girls 16-18 division, Sioux Falls' Lauren Roerig (114) in the girls 14-15 division and Stella Smith (79) in the girls 12-13 division, and Canton's Jacob DeJong (43) in the boys 10-11 nine-hole division.
The next Southeast Junior Tour event will be held at Lakeview Golf Course in Mitchell on Tuesday, June 17.
