Daniil Medvedev is off to a fantastic start in 2026, having reached the semifinals of the Brisbane International.

After comfortable wins over Marton Fucsovics and Frances Tiafoe in the opening rounds of the ATP 250 event, Medvedev came back from a set down to beat Kamil Majchrzak, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2, and book his place in the final four.

The Russian will now face Alex Michelsen, against whom he holds a winning record of 2-0 at tour-level competitions.

With his triumph over Majchrzak, Medvedev now only trails Novak Djokovic in an incredible ATP statistic.

Daniil Medvedev reaches his 52nd hard-court ATP semifinal

Medvedev’s clash with Michelsen at the Brisbane International will mark the 52nd ATP hard-court semifinal of his career.

By advancing to the penultimate stage, he surpassed ATP veteran Gael Monfils, with the Frenchman’s tally still 51 heading into his final season on the tour.

The only player who has made more semifinals on the surface than Medvedev is Djokovic, who has reached a whopping total of 127 and counting.

Medvedev’s hot run of form late on in 2025 featured three semifinal appearances at hard-court events.

He made the final four at the China Open, the Shanghai Masters, and the Almaty Open.

Daniil Medvedev said he is ‘close’ to being back to his best

Though Medvedev has certainly improved recently, he is still ranked outside the top 10.

When asked in his post-match press conference after beating Majchrzak if he feels he is getting back to his best, the former world number one said: “Yeah, I think it was close.

“I would say kind of first set I would put myself at top 10, top 20, because there was one sloppy game on my serve where I missed all the first serves and I lost it. Without this, maybe I win the first set.

“And same on the tiebreak, I think I made only two out of maybe five first serves. But second and third set, top-5 level, for sure. Amazing, not missing much, running well, serving like hell, volleys, everything.

“So really happy with my level these three matches and looking forward.”

Medvedev’s ranking fell to as low as 18th in the world during the 2025 ATP season.
