Play resumes after more than 6-hour delay in Round 2 of CJ Cup Byron Nelson

Play resumed at 5 p.m. EDT in the second round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, following a six-hour, 14-minute weather suspension. Round 2 was initially halted at TPC Craig Ranch at 10:46 a.m. because of lightning in the area.

Minutes before the horn blew to stop play, Scottie Scheffler reclaimed the outright lead with an eagle on his ninth hole.

Scheffler, who led after an opening, 10-under 61, was stuck on that number following eight pars to start Friday in McKinney, Texas. He then hit his second shot from 233 yards on the par-5 18th — his ninth — to 10 feet and converted the putt.

That moved the world No. 1 to 12 under, two shots clear of Jhonattan Vegas who was 2 under on the day through seven holes. Patton Kizzire (through 7) and Will Gordon (through 5) were at 9 under.

Jordan Spieth, playing alongside Scheffler, was also 2 under on his round and in a tie for 43rd at 4 under for the tournament. After making double bogey on his third hole, the par-4 12th, Spieth responded with four birdies over his next six holes before the suspension.

Players are using lift, clean and place for the second consecutive day after rain drenched the course Wednesday.
