Taylor Fritz already has a ‘massive’ regret about his 2026 season
Taylor Fritz has been busy at the start of the 2026 season, with all of his focus now on the Australian Open.
World number nine Fritz has never won a Grand Slam title, coming closest with a US Open final loss to Jannik Sinner in 2024.
At the Australian Open, the American has never made it beyond the quarterfinals, reaching that stage in 2024 too.
He enters this year’s tournament on the back of a lengthy stay at the United Cup, where his USA side reached the semifinals.

Fritz has been training hard ahead of the Grand Slam, although he was just beaten 6-1 in a practice set by Sinner.
It’s certainly not the ideal preparation for the American, who has now admitted his regret at not taking part in the One Point Slam.
Offering amateur players the chance to take on professionals for a A$ 1m prize, this year’s event was won by amateur Jordan Smith.
Sharing his disappointment at choosing not to play, Fritz wrote on X: “Now that I’m actually watching it on TV, massive L from me to not be playing the One Point Slam, this looks like so much fun.”

It clearly was a fun event for those involved and the 10,000 fans who packed into Rod Laver Arena to watch.
Much to their surprise, New South Wales state champion Smith went all the way in Melbourne, knocking out Sinner en route to the title.
Sharing his thoughts on the unforgettable success, he said: “Coming into tonight I would have been happy winning just one point. I was so nervous but enjoyed being out here, it was a great experience.”
He defeated WTA number 117 Joanna Garland in the final, bringing an end to a fantastic way to truly kick off the Australian Open.
Fritz will, however, now turn his focus back to the hard-court tournament, where the American star is the ninth seed.
His compatriot Ben Shelton is the eighth seed, while Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner are the first and second seeds respectively.
