UFC on ESPN 69 results: Rose Namajunas beats Miranda Maverick after late knockdown
Rose Namajunas bounced back at UFC on ESPN 69 with a solid win over frequent training partner Miranda Maverick.
Former two-time UFC strawweight champion Namajunas (14-7 MMA, 12-6 UFC) earned her third victory in five fights at women’s flyweight with a unanimous decision over Maverick (15-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) in the co-main event bout at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
It was a back-and-forth fight both on the feet and on the ground, but ultimately the judges rewarded Namajunas’ work, highlighted by a third-round knockdown, with the 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 nod on the scorecards.

Namajunas showed a lot of aggression in the striking from the outset, with Maverick holding her own and landing some counters to keep it competitive. Namajunas initiated a takedown with 90 seconds left, but it was stifled and then they continued to trade blows on the feet to close a tight opening frame.
It was a hot start for Namajunas again in the second round. She tagged Maverick with a three-punch combination and peppered her with kicks before landing the first takedown of the bout just over a minute into the frame. Namajunas kept Maverick grounded for several minutes, threatening with a rear-naked choke before Maverick reversed and nearly got an arm-triangle then closing strong with ground-and-pound to make it interesting going into the final five minutes.
The final round started with Maverick pressuring in the wrestling, but Namajunas found a moment for a left hand that led to a knockdown. She tried to finish from on top, but Maverick hung tough and Namajunas rode out the remaining time on top to ensure the win on the scorecards.
After the fight, Namajunas reflected on her performance and what the future holds.
“I think it came down to the third round. (I) dropped her and stayed on top of her for most of the time,” Namajunas said in her post-fight interview with Paul Felder.
