Uros Medic thinks comeback KO start of welterweight rankings push after UFC on ESPN 72

LAS VEGAS – Uros Medic met the media Saturday after his knockout over Gilbert Urbina at UFC on ESPN 72.

Medic (11-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) starched Urbina (7-4 MMA, 1-3 UFC) just 63 seconds into the first round on the prelims at the UFC Apex. But the finish only came after Medic himself was knocked down just a few seconds into the fight and was in trouble.

Medic said he had to get woken up, which he's making a habit of, but now thinks his knockout win could be the start of something big at welterweight. Medic has been in the UFC For nearly five years, but has had just one two-fight winning streak and has alternated wins and losses his past five fights.

"That's a foolish thing of me. (I did it) my last fight, as well, (against Punahele Soriano). I need to be more alert in these first minutes," Medic told MMA Junkie at his post-fight news conference. "Most of my fights do end in the first minutes, or the first (round).

"But I really need to work on staying more alert in the initial touching period. Everybody's so sharp and so fast, and I tend to be loose. I'm relaxed. I don't think much about it – no thoughts in my head. Just blank. I should be a little more sharp. I'll work on that. I don't want it to happen. It's foolish of me at this level to make those kinds of mistakes."

Medic said he was nervous about the fight this week because of digestive issues he had before the fight, but now he hopes this latest win will start a push into the rankings at welterweight.
