Weather, World Golf of Famer Dennis Walters highlight Family Championship
Jeff Golden and his 9-year-old daughter Greta won the Family Gross division of the eighth Jacksonville Area Golf Association Family Championship, at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.
The Goldens shot 8-under 50 on a course modified to 14 par-3 holes and four par-4 holes for the competition, for a par of 58.
The day was also highlighted by an exhibition featuring World Golf Hall of Fame member Dennis Walters, who has performed more than 3,500 times from the seat of a golf cart, accompanied by his co-star, Gussie the dog.
There was also a contest for the best holiday golf attire, with Joe and Hilary Watson sharing the honors with Lakshmi Gopel and children Leela and Krishna Clark.
In other divisions:
- Tama and K.C. Caldabaugh of Ponte Vedra Beach won the Couples Gross AM division with a 4-under 54.
- Kristen and Adam Schupak of Ponte Vedra Beach won the Couples Net AM division at 5-under 53.
- Keith and Austin Bratton won the Family Gross AM division at 8-under 50 by one shot over past winners Stephen and Nancy Cox and Allison and Addy Vogt.
- Jane and Brad Rollinson of Ponte Vedra won the Couples Gross PM division at 2-under 56.
- Jeff and Kelly Johnstone won the Couples net PM division at 7-under 51.
- Andy and Andy Kokoska won the Family net PM division at 10-under 48.
First Coast players dominate FJT division
If the final point standings for the Florida Junior Tour girls 9-10 division are any indication, junior girls golf on the First Coast will be deep in the coming years.
Six players from the area were among the top 21 on the FJT 9-10 points list at the end of the 2025 season, led by No. 2 Jiratarn Pornchai of Middleburg. She was followed by Avery Chen of Ponte Vedra Beach in fifth, Teagan Chen of Ponte Vedra in eighth, Veda Sinoj of Jacksonville in 15th, Taylor Titus of Orange Park in 17th and Athena Breffitt of Ponte Vedra in 21st.
Other area players ranked high in their respective age groups:
- Boys 16-18: Jonah Nacional, St. Augustine, 11th; Luke Splane, St. Augustine, 19th; Cooper Franklin, Ponte Vedra, tied for 23rd.
- Boys 13-15: Ambrone Kinnare, St. Augustine, seventh; Charlie Hipp, St. Johns, 17th.
- Girls 13-15: Lily Wachter, St. Augustine, 14th; Chloe McGrath, Jacksonville, 20th; Lily Chiang, Jacksonville, 22nd.
- Boys 11-12: Jay Huntley, Jacksonville Beach; 13th; Benny Ossi, Ponte Vedra, tied for 16th; Joseph Mitchell, Ponte Vedra, 19th.
- Girls 11-12: Honor Donaldson, St. Augustine, 21st; Elize Norabat, St. Johns, 22nd.
- Boys 9-10: Kiryn Chary, Ponte Vedra, tied for 15th.
First Tee Women's Classic set for The Yards
The Ladies Executive Golf Society will hold its fifth annual First Tee Women's Classic on Feb. 25 at The Yards.
The tournament format will be a modified scramble, followed by a reception for players and supporters with awards, engagement activities and a curated marketplace with opportunities to connect with fellow golfers, LEGS members, volunteers and First Tee supporters.
