World's Top Women's Tennis Player Sends Strong Message Before French Open Final

World’s Top Women’s Tennis Player Sends Strong Message Before French Open Final originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The women’s singles French Open final is set, with Aryna Sabalenka facing Coco Gauff in a battle of the best players in the world today.

It’s the first time since 2013 — when Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova met each other in Paris — that the World No. 1 will face the World No. 2 in the French Open title match.

No. 2 seed Gauff beat Lois Boisson to book her ticket to the finale, while the top-seeded Sabalenka took down Iga Swiatek in the other semifinal matchup to make it to her first career French Open final.

Now, ahead of the exciting Roland-Garros final on Saturday, Sabalenka took to social media to celebrate her career milestone of reaching the title match. However, she also made sure to remind herself that the mission is not yet over.

“My first @rolandgarros final, but the job’s not done yet,” Sabalenka wrote, along with several photos of her from the Swiatek clash. “See you Saturday.”

Aryna Sabalenka echoed the same sentiment when speaking following her semifinal win, while also acknowledging the fact that Coco Gauff is a tough opponent for her.

“[The semifinal] was a big match, and it felt like a final, but I know that the job is not done yet,” Sabalenka stated, per WTA. “I have to go out there on Saturday, and I have to fight and I have to bring my best tennis, and I have to work for that title, especially if it’s going to be Coco.”

Sabalenka has split her career head-to-head matches with Gauff, 5-5. They are also 1-1 in Grand Slam meetings. That being said, the Belarusian star did defeat her American rival the last time they met in a clay-court finale — at the Madrid Open last month.
