Francis Marshall feeling at home, wants UFC 330 Philly spot next
LAS VEGAS – Francis Marshall met the media Saturday after his win over Lucas Brennan at UFC Fight Night 274.
Marshall (10-3 MMA, 4-3 MMA) swept the scorecards against Brennan (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) on the prelims at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Marshall took the fight with Brennan, a former Bellator fighter whose dad once fought in the UFC, on just a few days' notice for each of them, but didn't appear to be short of strategy against the crafty grappler.
"I feel like I could've capitalized more on some ground-and-pound, so that's going to be something that I go back to the gym and work on," Marshall said at his post-fight news conference. "But he's a good jiu-jitsu guy, a lot of submission finishes, a high-level black belt, so a lot of it was, I was hesitant on losing position and having him scramble up.
"… His best path to victory would have been a submission or getting caught in a scramble, so I didn't want to give that to him."
Marshall said after the short-notice booking, he's looking to return quickly after more work at American Top Team. If Marshall can't fight at home in New Jersey at UFC 328 next week with such a quick turnaround, he'd gladly take a spot on another pay-per-view, instead.
And UFC 330 is planned for Philadelphia in August, which wouldn't put him too far away from his OG home turf.
"July, August would be great," Marshall said. I know they're going back to Philly in August. I"m from New Jersey, so that would be a great card to get on. At the end of the day, whatever the UFC gives me a contract for, I'm signing and I'm fighting."
